While I have a high degree of mechanical skill, the ability to improvise when necessary, and the ability to fabricate stuff to a point, I do not have what it takes to build an entire bike from the frame up. I also love riding and working on bikes.īut, be that as it may, I have to accept the fact that I will never be a bike builder. I am a mechanic by trade, I repair and maintain fleet vehicles for a living, but I also love tinkering and experimenting with mechanical things, which has lead to a pretty successful career as an amateur drag racer (no money involved, other than the thousands of $$$ I spent, but I have a lot of trophys). While most people can learn to do these things, to a point, only a few become really great at it. To me, that means it requires talent, like being able to play a musical instrument, or paint, or sculpt. As it states, "Chopper building is a craft or an art form and not a science". But, building your own bike is something not everyone can do. Yes, that book is an excellent resource for anyone contemplating their own bike.
